Breaking: US Announces Troops out of Iraq by January, as Per 2008 Agreement

Today President Obama announced that all US troops will withdraw from Iraq by the end of the year, as specified in the 2008 Status of Forces Agreement signed between Iraq PM Al-Maliki and President Bush. This comes after calls from both outside and within the administration to keep a few thousand troops in the Arab nation to mitigate any potential Iranian interference in Iraqi affairs. The announcement made today marks the official end of the American military presence after nearly nine years of war, insurgency, and now a tenuous peace. And though US combat troops will leave country, a force of 160 Marines will stay to guard the US Embassy in Baghdad and around 5,000 US security contractors will continue to assist the Iraqi military as they prepare to take full responsibility for the security of their nation.
